St Rita

St Rita was a retrofit system. They had a sound system but the fidelity and audibility were terrible. We met with the customer to determine their needs and take detailed measurements of the room and the construction materials. Then we did a room model using BOSE Modeler software to aid in the sound system design.

We were able to use some parts of the existing system. Their large format mixer, some of the wiring and processing electronics and the equipment rack were re-used.

The new system was designed to project the sound onto the seating areas and avoid the surrounding walls and ceiling. This prevents the speakers from adding to the reflections (echo) of the room and improves intelligibility.

The main speaker cluster consists of 2 Bose® Panaray® LT 9702® loudspeakers. Using 2 9702 speakers (90 by 70 degree coverage each) gave us the coverage we needed and kept wall and ceiling reflection to a minimum.

We use 4 200-watt Panaray® MB4 modular bass loudspeakers to provide enough bass to balance the frequency response of the system. We also configured the subwoofers to steer the bass coverage.*(see below)

Eight (8) Bose Model 32 speakers were used to cover all the areas not covered by the main cluster. These areas are typically under balcony, choir locations, Narthex and crying rooms.

Virtually every sound system we install has been designed with the aid of Bose Modeler software. This allows us to see what the system will sound like. The coverage map on the right is an example. Click for bigger view.

The steel, lockable equipment rack is permanently mounted in a storage room. This rack includes the power amplifiers, the Bose system controllers, A Shure DFR digital signal processor, TOA mixers and Shure ULX wireless mics.

*BASS STEERING: For years it has been common practice to accept that a sound system with good bass response would generate those low notes evenly thru-out the room. Unfortunately that usually meant more bass at the performer or users location than the rest of the room. This often caused feedback problems and made it hard for the microphone users to hear. This system was designed and built with a concept called "Steered Bass". By separating the subwoofers a critical distance and then electronically delaying some of the signal it is possible to control where those low notes are going. This allows good bass response without causing microphone feedback or other audio problems.
Bose Modeler software allows us to design and predict bass steering into any multiple bass cabinet Bose sound system.
